Part : 2
Blood Collection Tubes |
Green Top Tube
There are two types of green top tube used in laboratory that is Dark green top tube and light green top tube. First of we will see about dark green top tube then light green top tube.
Dark Green Top Tube
Anti coagulant - Sodium Heparin
Mode of action - Inactivate thrombin and thromboplastin.
Use :-
- Used for heparinized plasma sparation.
- Used for Special chemistry testen.
- To Check ammonia level.
- To Check Lithium level.
Light Green Top Tube
It is also known as pasma separating tube (PST).
It is contain gel which separate plasma and blood cells.
Anti coagulant - Lithium heparin
Mode of action - Inactivate thrombin and thromboplastin.
Use :-
- Used for heparinized plasma separation.
- Used in routine chemistry test.
- To check ammonia level.
- In Cytogenetic studies.
Light Blue Top Tube
Anti coagulant - Sodium citrate
Mode of action - Formation of calcium salt and removal of calcium.
Ratio of sample and Anti Coagulant is 1:9 in this light blue top tube
Use :-
● PT test - For extrinsic pathway.
● PTT test - For intrinsic pathway.
● Fibrinogen assay - For final comman pathway.
● Coagulation assay.
● INR - For monitoring patient on warfarin.
Dark Blue Top Tube
Anti coagulant - EDTA
Mode of action - As per light blue top tube.
Use :- Specially used for trace metal analysis.
